Dave Portnoy, founder, and CEO of Barstool Sports, just launched a new watch brand. Already, the Barstool President is under fire for what’s being called a cheap, sleazy money-grab.
Social media influencer Colin Landforce (@landforce), who admits to being a Portnoy fan himself, did not hesitate to call him out on his bullshit. He points out that the return address listed under the warranty section of Brick Watch Company’s website leads to the headquarters of a build-your-own watch brand known as MTM Watch.
@landforce_ Brick Watch Company… Dave, my man, you think the Barstool audience is dumb? This is the best you could do? Have you fired the project manager behind this yet? #barstoolsports #daveportnoy #creatorbusiness #businesstips #watchbrand ♬ dumb dumb - sped up - mazie
He claims the “Chrono-Diver 22,” a $2400 watch on Portnoy’s site, is really a $42 watch. The watch may be worth that much in actuality, as compared to similar listings on MTM Watch’s site, but it still showcases the massive lack of effort put into Brick Watch Company’s product. Landforce also shows us that MTM Watch has an entire section of their website where anyone can customize their own version of a number of their watch offerings. It appears this is all Portnoy did. Emphasis on “all.”
Hmmmmm…well isn’t this interesting!

All those “millions” you spent on designing this state of the art, “Rolex” quality watch simply just led you to https://t.co/KN5jmWxzGi where you just designed your own white label product.

Hell, even their websites look pretty much the same.
